Kish Named One of Top Community Banks in the Country

STATE COLLEGE, PA – Kish Bancorp, Inc., the holding company for Kish Bank, has been named to American Banker’s annual Top 200 Community Banks list for 2023. On the list published in June, Kish ranked 52^nd among the nation’s top-performing publicly traded banks with under $2 billion in assets, climbing 37 spots from its 2022 ranking of 89^th. Kish also ranked third among Pennsylvania banks.

Kish has been repeatedly recognized by American Banker in 15 of its last 16 annual rankings, which are based on three-year return on average equity (ROAE) using data compiled and analyzed by the consulting firm Capital Performance Group (CPG). The banks that made this year’s list, based on data from year-end 2022, posted a lower median efficiency ratio, higher median net interest margin, and a stronger median net loan growth compared with all publicly traded community banks.

“Although the banking industry has recently faced some turbulence, there is much to celebrate for many community banks,” said American Banker.

Claude Hanley, a partner at CPG, noted the significance of banks making repeat appearances on the Top 200 list over the span of years despite the different challenges banks face each year. “This suggests that they have proven histories of above-par performances that give them both momentum and proven business models that are more likely to endure through difficult times,” said Hanley.
