Watch Out for Customer Service Scams
December 6, 2021
We have recently seen an increase in customers falling victim to phone and email scams in which fraudsters pose as the customer service of a company in order to obtain your information. In order to best protect yourself from these types of scams, please be sure to take the following precautions:
- If you are trying to contact customer service for a retailer or other company, such as Amazon or Apple, make sure you are dialing a legitimate phone number obtained from the company’s official website.
- If you receive a phone call from what appears to be a company’s customer service/a customer service representative, it is safest to verify the phone number via the company’s official website and then initiate a callback yourself before providing any personal information.
- When searching online for a company’s information, double-check the URL of any site you obtain a phone number from to ensure that it is the company’s official website and not an impostor site.
